Tighten your Ponytail, Darling
If you have ever seen me at the gym, I always have my hair up in some sort of ponytail; about 80% of the time, there is some kind of braid in it, but the other 20%, I am just too darn lazy to actually care how my thick head of hair looks on top of my scalp.
Well, this ponytail doesn't always do as it is told; so when I start running or divulge into plyometric training, I gotta tighten my ponytail multiple times over.
When a girl tightens her ponytail, you know it is about to go down.
Outside of the gym, I have been tightening my ponytail quite a lot, both physically and figuratively.
Jumping into the world of nursing is probably harder than nursing school itself.
You see, nursing school teaches you the basics of being a nurse. You go through a whole two plus years of school to jump into the real world of nursing just to realize that you actually know close to nothing and the next few years will be full of constant lessons being learned and pretending you have it all under control.
Okay, so maybe you know more than you think you know, but now instead of learning about taking care of people, you now actually have people's lives in your hands.
Wait, I am only twenty-two, how is this even possible.
It can all become very overwhelming very quickly.
And that is why I remain in a state of tightening my ponytail, 'cause it is always time to get down to business.
Life is starting to become real. No longer in school and out in the "real world" can be a scary thing. However, emerging from a comfort zone was never meant to be comfortable, and it is in the moments of uncertainty and challenges where one grows.
With a long list of goals and aspirations that only continues to grow, I sometimes question my ability to successfully complete it all. Many days I am in need of moments where I plug in the motivational tunes and pretend I am in some badass Taylor Swift music video.
Call me what you will, but don't pretend like you never do it!
Challenges have saturated many weeks since I graduated with my BSN degree; and now so, I expect the challenges to come rolling in all the more.
However, muscles don't increase in size if you never do anything with them. You will never jump higher if you don't start where you are at.
A new nurse never became a successful and well experienced nurse by being scared of the next step.
So here I stand, drinking my peppermint mocha and tightening my figurative ponytail, getting ready for the next challenge ahead of me.
Tighten that ponytail, love. 'Cause no short volleyball player ever became a two-foot jumper hitter with no challenging plyometric training.
