A letter to my best friend
"a best friend is someone who loves you when you forget to love yourself"
When I was little, I had friends, even best friends; but they were never like the movies.
In the movies, they have cute little sleepovers where they talk about boys and gossip and eat a bunch of ice cream. Well, in many aspects, I had that part of friendships.
But what was missing was the "happily ever after" of friendship. The part of a best friend that makes a true 'best friend.'
It wasn't until you walked into my life that all the gossip about boys and eating ice cream and cookies while watching chick-flick movies became something that felt like home.
On the outside, it seems like an accident that our paths crossed and a friendship began to flourish, but through the years, it has become evident that God blessed out friendship long before it had come into existance. He knew I would need you and you would need me.
"you changed my life without even trying, and I don't think I could ever tell you how much you mean to me. I can't imagine what things would be like if I hadn't met you"
Things have long changed since we adopted and swapped the titles of "best friend." You say that throughout the years, you have seen such a change in who I was to who I am today. Life has showed me a lot through my circumstances, and through those situations and challenges I have become who I am; but even more so, a change agent that has existed in my life is you.
The way you care so deeply about people is something that I so admired when we were younger; you have helped me become a more caring person.
Most of the time, you don't realize what a blessing you are to this earth - how beautiful would this world be if there were more people like you in it.
You open up your heart and your past to me, you make yourself vulnerable to whatever judgement I may pass over you; oh darling, know there is nothing you can ever say that will ever make me think of you differently.
Somewhere along the road of our friendship, we have both chosen to work through life together, no matter the distance between our beings.
Isn't it beautiful that through the tears, laughter can arise; that with you, I have truly learned what 'empathy' means.
Isn't it beautiful to know that despite the challenges that come my way, I will always have someone on my side; that when I am in the wrong, I will have someone to tell me andhelp me walk through it; that when I am suffering, I will have a shoulder to cry on; that when I need a motivational speech or a round of applause, you will be there to give it; that when I need a good laugh, you know what to say; and that when you need a helping hand or any of the above, I will always be here to give it to you.
What a pleasure it is to experience the unconditional love that God so willingly gives to us through a friendship like this.
With you, I don't have a movie-friendship, I have so much more.
"you're my Nemo; if you get lost in the great big ocean, I will find you"
